SHSI helps survivors of Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses

Along with the rise of Coronavirus cases, the Philippines had also been hit with two typhoons, Rolly and Ulysses, in the first days of November. This has caused areas of our country to get flooded, making many houses subdued in water, and Filipino families being forced to stay on their roofs and wait for resources and rescuers to come to their aid.

Seeing the catastrophe that had struck our country, South Hill School, Inc. had decided to help through hosting a benefit concert called “Tabang Kita”, meaning “Let’s Help”. The benefit concert aimed to collect and donate money for the victims of the typhoons through online and bank donations received from viewers of the concert. The concert featured many South Hill students from all departments, teachers, and alumni who showcased their talents for the cause. They performed heartwarming and inspiring songs, charismatic, upbeat dance performances, and many more. Raffle winners were announced at the end of the show.

“The goal of this benefit concert is to gather as much resources to help the survivors of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses in simple ways and we have certainly achieved that tonight,” Mrs. Ivee Opina, South Hill School’s Principal, said at the end of the event. She continued, “We’ve once again proven that we can do great things together”.

Many people watched the concert with their relatives, students, and many of the performers’ outside friends who came to show their support and commented encouraging words while the livestream was ongoing. With over 3.2K views on Facebook, the concert was a success. By the end of the event, South Hill had raised PHP 17,340 through online donations and had continued receiving more donations from that day. The donations that were earned from the Tabang Kita benefit concert were contributed to the call for donations towards the victims of the Typhoon Rolly and Ulysses headed by the School’s Student Government. With this, South Hill has shown that no matter what situation we may be in, there is always an opportunity to assist our community.
