Socialization activities for South Hill students
As South Hill School, Incorporated resumed its classes last September through an online educational environment, teachers made the students participate in various socialization activities to make-up for missed interactive activities from the former face-to-face education. Students were required to participate in these activities to ensure the socialization with one another through sharing of ideas for their activities.
For the first socialization activity, the senior high students were assigned to create a TikTok video that required the use of an OPM song as part of the Buwan ng Wika celebration. Some students danced while others transformed themselves from wearing ordinary clothes to their traditional costumes such as Filipinianas for the girls and Barongs for the boys. Their second assigned activity was to do a photoshoot while wearing their traditional costumes along with their customized face shields to match their outfits, adhering to both the Buwan ng Wika theme and the promotion of mandatory wearing of face masks and face shields.
The junior high students were not exempted from these socialization activities. Their first activity for their part of the upcoming Buwan ng Wika was to create poems. Not only did their creative skills and talents were challenged, but also their compassion for their motherland.
These monthly socialization activities changed throughout the week and so did the groupings. The frequent changing of group members allowed students to socialize from different sections and grade levels.
For the month of October, the socialization activities were based on the Teacher’s Day and the United Nations (UN). For the Teacher’s Day activity, the senior high students were tasked to create a short video greeting for their teachers for the effort and hard work they put in especially right now during this pandemic. As for the UN activity, each group was assigned a country that was a part of the United Nations. To make use of the students’ creativity, they were assigned to create a virtual field trip. From the famous tourist spots, the culture and other things these countries could offer, the students were able to incorporate these for their own creative virtual field trip in place of a physical one, which as for now, they could not attend. The junior high students were also involved in their creative activities. A challenging poster-making and songwriting activity were tasked to the students to exhibit their talents and skills for the UN activity.
These various creative activities opened a path for interaction and socialization within the students despite not performing in a physical environment. Activities such as these help create a continuous bond and friendship not being hindered by the current situation of the world. As the school year has just started, more upcoming socialization activities are awaiting for the students.
