Smiles By A Pixel

We are all guarded by the walls of our home to keep us away from the harm of getting infected by this ‘beerus’. Lives of many people were disrupted and had to give up their source of income and some even had to risk their lives to save other people.

We were caught unprepared when the pandemic occurred. It was like a magic was cast upon us,  restricting us to go out of our houses. The vaccine would be our knight in shining armor to once again bring back the life that was once forbidden. Classes were suspended and we were back at home, reminiscing the times as we take advantage of having a precious life. Being able to be with our friends, hearing loud laughs from each corner of our classroom, and making memories out of the craziest thing we could do - - these are just few of the many things that all of us  missing.  In a snap, everything vanished. The four corners of the classroom are now replaced with the four corners of our screens. Laughs can now be compared to a robot’s laughs, occasionally unstable due to  poor internet connectivity and the burst of emotions are no longer the same.

Video calls happen almost every night to keep in touch with our beloved friends and families but their smiles are quite unpredictable. Were they smiling or a loose pixel had occurred? It seems like a crooked smile had formed from their faces that keeps us wondering if life has been  treating them well. I would often stare at my friends’ camera to check at their smiles if there’s a missing pixel that made their precious smile incomplete. How I wish to go back in time where I could easily check on them and ask them if they’re doing fine. Those times wherein comforting someone would be easier than ever, rather than to be in this type of situation wherein we have the capability to hide our pains with our pixelated smiles.
