SHSI conducts Social Emotional Learning Activities
South Hill School, Inc. came up with the SEL or Socio-Emotional Learning Activity for this school year with Ms. Leah S. Pablo, SHSI Guidance Counsellor, as the facilitator of the sessions. The first session took place on September 1-4, 2020. The main goal of this activity is for all the students in different year levels to prepare for their online classes along with the management of emotions and achievement of personal goals.
“As students learn online during this pandemic,” Ms. Pablo stated “the students should stay positive and be open-minded in their adjustment to the new learning system.” Ms. Pablo added “What should be and should not be done and lastly the preparation? Creating your own workspace and preparing all of your needs for school.” In addition, she also mentioned, “Students should make a to-do-list and their own schedule or planner, keep track of themselves as well as their school work while establishing a routine and setting a time or what most call, time management”.
Stated by Ms. Pablo, “Students may be seeing each other through their device’s screens but either way, they should always have in mind that they are having classes. Recitation, group work, projects and tests, it is like the old normal but through a screen. Students should be able to cope up with the pandemic since the new normal is taking place.”
Ms. Pablo also commented that communication and socialization is a must for this school year. There could be various reasons why students are not able to do their school work or attend their classes. Lectures may have a topic that some couldn’t understand, and there may be a time where students couldn’t pass their work due to valid reasons. Thus, they must be able to communicate with their teachers and classmates. Having confidence to voice their thoughts and opinions to their teachers and classmates while gaining new information would happen.
Our guidance counselor, Ms. Leah S. Pablo has imparted and disseminated her lessons. She ends the session with the statement “Please keep all of these lessons and apply it to this new school year. Bringing out the best. Let’s have a good school year, South Hillians!”
