South Hillian places in top 10 of ENVIOCON video contest

South Hill School Inc. recently participated in a national video contest – ENVIOCON - held by the principal research and development unit of DENR, the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB). ENVIOCON aims to highlight possible contributions to biotechnology to further improve or tackle present and future environmental issues in the country. In an attempt to contribute to ENVIOCON’s goal, Daniela Barile, a Grade 12 student and member of Club with No Name (CWNN), worked with Sir Aman Molin to produce a video that would best portray their bio-technological breakthrough to empower farmers and environmental leaders, improve Agroforestry, and depict the potential of building tree nurseries for Pollution Tolerant Trees. With the help of Alyssa Basilio, also a Grade 12 student and member of CWNN, they were able to submit a video entitled “It’s EC Going Green!” (EC – Enzymatic Composting) and made it to the Top 10 entries.

Using the previous studies of Jaco Fritz L. Rosellon (2019) and Armando Perfecto dc Molin (2014) on composting, they came up with a proposal to use a re-formulated whey inoculant to accelerate composting as a way to mitigate environmental risks. It is a zero-cost procedure and has a very high NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) level, which means that it will greatly improve harvests. This innovation is very safe as it passes all the parameters set by the Philippine National Standard and Bureau of Agricultural Fisheries. They sought out to empower farmers and environmental leaders, improve Agroforestry, and depict the potential of building tree nurseries for Pollution Tolerant Trees.

South Hill School Inc. has always been striving for projects that have potential to change the world for the better. Seeking to help the environment is definitely not an exception to this. To make a great impact on the world requires change.
